Care & Accommodation
Set in 28 acres of rolling Shropshire countryside, Options Higford provides a safe, homely environment for children and young people with autistic spectrum conditions.
Options Higford can accommodate young people in its 4 houses, incorporating group living or two solo-accommodation apartments. The bespoke, person-centred service can cater for up to 52 week per-year placements, 38 week term-time placements, or individual packages in-between. (We also offer day-placements within the school).
Options Higford accommodates children and young people, both male and female, aged 8-19 years inclusive. Each of the houses and apartments are purpose designed. Each young person has their own bedroom, with an en-suite wet-room/shower and access to a shared bathroom and shared lounge, kitchen and dining facilities. Every effort is made to ensure that living environments are homely and personalised, while taking into account the sensory and behavioural issues related to children and young people with autism and complex needs.
High levels of support and care from a dedicated staff team is always available as a result of these complexities. Each child or young person has their own specifically designed programme which enables them to develop the skills for emotional regulation and living as independently as possible. The person-centred approach uses Autism and Trauma informed practice within a positive, caring environment. Our practice has achieved Autism Accreditation with the National Autistic Society consistently since 2012.
Preserving and enhancing the relationship between families and their children is very important to us here at Options Higford. We do this on a daily basis by promoting, facilitating and supporting contact in a variety of ways. For example, face-to-face (on or off site), supported or unsupported; letterbox, recognising festivals and special occasions; telephone and text; email; and Skype or face-time.
With three houses on the campus, each with purpose designed facilities. Each child has his/her own bedroom with access to a shared lounge, dining and kitchen facilities. Every effort is made to ensure that their living environments are homely, individualised and take into account the sensory and behavioural issues related to children with autistic spectrum condition and complex needs.
Options Higford also has dedicated respite provision onsite, comprising en-suite bedrooms and communal living areas.
“Whoever designed the service had got inside the mind of an autistic child – built-in beds, windows with blinds inside, wonderful multi-sensory experiences, and most importantly, huge grounds with lots of trees.”
