Our Homes – Acorn Park – Adult Services

Acorn Park – Adult Services

Acorn Park Adult Services opened in 2008 as a care home for adults aged 18 – 65 with an autistic spectrum condition, associated social communication difficulties and complex needs. We offer a 52 week a year placement.

The emphasis at Acorn Park Adult Services is placed on developing and maintaining independence skills, supporting community inclusion and gaining life skills whilst recognising individual strengths and celebrating successes.

  • 18 to 65 years old
  • Co-Educational
  • Norfolk
  • Four detached homes
  • 52 week residential care
  • Autism, associated social communication difficulties and complex needs

Our aim is to further develop the independence of our residents through an environment that is nurturing, secure and consistent. We place emphasis on positive relationships between residents and staff so that each resident is highly involved with their care package and has a firm circle of support to succeed.

Communication is a highly important skill, staff support each resident to use the Picture Exchange Communication System, evaluating their ability and exploring options within this system.

Makaton and Intensive Interaction are also used throughout the service in order to engage and develop relationships, offer choice in a controlled and holistic manner and promote independence.

Staff work with each resident to create Person Centered Plans and goals, mark progress and evaluate where more support may be required, seeing the positive and celebrating each small step as a success.

“

We are extremely grateful to the amazing staff at Acorn Park for all their hard work in ensuring our son is happy, healthy and fulfilled in life.

Community Links

Our highly trained, experienced staff support residents in all of the activities that they undertake. They do this by adopting a consistent approach and by creating a purposeful, calm atmosphere.

When engaging in activities, our young adults will:

  • Carry out practical vocational tasks
  • Attend a life experience placement either on site or out in the community
  • Or attend a local college (We have strong links with local external colleges – Easton College and City College, Norwich).
  • Our residents can participate in educational based visits and outings which take place both during the day and as part of their leisure activities during the week nights and weekends.

Opportunities offered to our residents include swimming, gym, bowling, horse riding, football, music therapy, and walking. We also regularly visit the local cinema, theatre, super markets, farm shops and local places of interest together with eating out or going to the pub, which many enjoy. We also have strong links with the local community.

Our Sites

The residential accommodation is comfortable and attractive and comprises of four detached family homes situated on a quiet road within our extensive privately owned grounds.

An example of some of our accommodation on site:

Walnut Lodge

Walnut Lodge comprises of 5 bedrooms, two with en-suites, a large lounge area, dining room, two downstairs toilets, family bathroom, kitchen and substantial garden.

Walnut Lodge also has the added area of flexible accommodation: A sensory room which doubles as a bedroom, en-suite whirlpool bathroom, a lounge with sensory lights and a kitchenette in a separate room, this enables our residents to be supported away from the main group.

The Brambles

The Brambles is for adults with complex needs, including high levels of challenging behaviour. The house is ideal for sole occupancy whilst developing the social skills needed to transition into shared accommodation.

When at home, residents have the choice of either watching TV/DVD or relaxing in their bedrooms, enjoying the garden, participating in craft activities or listening to music. We encourage residents to maintain firm links with family and friends and do this through regular phone calls, emails or letters.

For some this may be the first time they have lived away from home, whilst others may have become used to returning home at weekends. It is with this in mind that we always work closely with parents and guardians to ensure they are kept up to date and to share and celebrate their young adult’s successes.

Oak House

Oak House compromises of 5 bedrooms, 4 of which are en-suite, a large lounge area, dining room, kitchen, smaller second lounge area, downstairs toilet and separate downstairs shower room along with a large garage and garden.

Oak House provides an excellent home for individuals who are encouraged to enhance independence and life skills. Our home residents are encouraged to participate in activities both in house and in the garden, whilst also being able to relax in their bedrooms. All residents have access to TV and internet, and are encouraged to maintain strong links with their family, either via phone calls and email, or by letters and family visits.

Maple House

Maple House is the services newest addition, having been renovated in January 2017.

Maple House comprises of 3 bedrooms, one of which is en-suite, a large lounge/diner, kitchen, downstairs toilet, garage with utility area and a large garden including a pond and vegetable patches.

Maple House is for adults with complex needs whilst having facilities both in-house and in the garden to encourage participation and independence.
