Options Applegate House

We found people continued to be supported in an outstanding caring way. People who used the service told us, ‘I love it here, I can be my own boss and try new things. The staff are my friends and help me.

Staff knew the people they support well and were able to accommodate their communication needs.

X has successfully moved into Options Applegate House and a year down the line he has decorated his flat (via his choice) and established his own menu. He has attended several Applegate events, including Goathland, Beamish National Railway Museum, Cadbury World, Flamingo Land, festive themed events and a trip to London. Not only this, he regularly goes out with peers to participate in activities within the community, and is currently completing work experience as well as achieving new AQA’s.WLCC has opened up opportunities to them that I never thought possible. WLCC has the passion, understanding and empathy that has made me feel my sons are worth something and have every right to have access to what they would like to achieve, no matter how big the challenge is to them or the college staff. Thank you.

M has done incredibly well, attending the community gym throughout the week, participating in activities with friends in the community, going on holidays with his family and even celebrating his 30th birthday with a day trip to the zoo and a meal out.

G has achieved so much, including a holiday to Centre Parks, a cruise with his family around Europe, regular sessions at a ‘Boogie Bounce’ fitness class within the community, 10 years’ work experience at the Red Cross, attending a Hull vs Norwich football match and turning 30!

S has been enjoying many trips and holidays, including Drayton Manor Theme Park, Centre Parks, Pickering, Beamish National Railway Museum, Cadbury World and Flamingo Land, as well as attending the community gym.

G has a pet praying mantis called ‘Treasure’ that she looks after very well. G has also been on days out to Cadbury World and a ‘cat café’, she continues her job and is looking for more work experience, as well as being on holiday with Applegate to Yorkshire she also has another trip planned to Liverpool.

We are pleased that he has many opportunities to access the local community or go on trips and outings further afield whilst still being supported.

We think the manager Luke is an excellent leader promoting a cheerful and positive atmosphere throughout the house. He is approachable and always looking to move residents’ skills forward.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Applegate House to other families in a similar situation to our own.

Applegate staff are always friendly and courteous when I have visited or called the service. Due to the size of the home it is like a big family.

I think Applegate is unique in its approach to care for Autism…it is the only care home in the area that can meet X’s complex needs.
