News & Events Specialist Care Provider Celebrates Fourth Outstanding CQC Rating
A specialist care provider is celebrating after a service in North Lincolnshire was rated as outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.
‘Innovative’ specialist young person residential service, Options Watermill Lodge, which delivers ‘high quality, person centred care’ received the rating following an unannounced inspection.
Options Autism, which runs Watermill Lodge, is the only care provider in England to have four services in the adult social care sector rated as outstanding.
The inspection was carried out in November 2015, and a report has recently been released rating the service as outstanding overall.
Options Watermill Lodge is the fourth Options Autism service to be awarded an outstanding CQC rating in less than two years. Options Autism Applegate was awarded outstanding in December 2014, and Options Roxby House was also given the top mark in November 2015. Options Watermill House, which shares a site with Options Watermill Lodge, was rated as outstanding in January 2016.
The four Options Autism services are in the top 1 per cent of adult social care services that are rated Outstanding by CQC standards in the country.
Options Watermill Lodge, in Brigg, South Humberside, offers specialist person-centred care and opportunities for personal development for up to 10 younger people with autistic spectrum conditions, and associated complex needs. The service has been developed extensively to meet the needs of the individuals in its care.
Options Watermill Lodge is part of the Options Autism journey of care. The pathway is unique within the sector and offers support to individuals at any stage of their life. Whilst some of Options Autism services are set up to focus on longer term care they continually invest in the children, young people and adults in their care to ensure positive progression throughout their lives.
On site facilities at Watermill Lodge include an activity barn, hydrotherapy pool and specialist outdoor activity equipment.
The CQC report stated: ‘Throughout our inspection we saw the service had creative ways of ensuring people led fulfilling lives and they were supported to make choices and have control of their lives.
‘An outstanding feature of Watermill Lodge was the time spent developing the service, using creative and flexible ways to support people to move forward. The environment had been carefully considered and specialist adaptations provided to ensure a homely environment for people, whilst meeting their individual needs.
‘The registered manager and team demonstrated passion and commitment to providing the best care possible for people, celebrating individual’s personal achievements with them.’
Speaking of the latest outstanding CQC rating, head of adult autism service for Options Autism, Russell Leese, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that our fourth service in the north has received an outstanding CQC rating. It’s a remarkable achievement, and fantastic recognition for the excellent work undertaken by all of our staff, we’re all incredibly proud.
“The outstanding ratings demonstrate our commitment to ensure the best outcomes possible for the young people we support.”
