Garden Grand Opening at Chestnut Hill School with BBC’s Iolo Williams

Last Tuesday marked a special day at Chestnut Hill School as we welcomed Iolo Williams from BBC’s Springwatch to officially open our brand-new Cherry Tree Garden! This vibrant space is dedicated to horticulture, forest school, and multisensory experiences, offering our pupils a unique way to connect with nature.

The celebration was filled with engaging activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity. Local wildlife artist Katie Sheen led an inspiring art workshop where students crafted beautifully formed nests and explored the nature table, asking insightful questions about our local wildlife.

Our pupils also had the chance to experience the great outdoors in exciting ways—making delicious S’mores by the new firepit, hopping along the sensory path, and soaking in the calming tones of a sound bath. To top off the festivities, everyone enjoyed a sweet treat with a yummy doughnut while taking in the stunning views of our outdoor space.

Cherry Tree Garden has been designed as a multi-purpose learning environment where pupils can develop key life skills, build confidence, and connect with the natural world. By incorporating horticulture, sensory experiences, and outdoor activities, we are creating opportunities for children to explore, play, and learn in a way that suits their individual needs. We believe that outdoor learning enhances creativity, well-being, and engagement, and we are excited to see how this space continues to support our pupils.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful project and its opening event. We can’t wait to see Cherry Tree Garden grow and thrive as a cherished part of Chestnut Hill School‘s community!

Chestnut Hill School welcomes families from Flintshire, Denbighshire, and Wrexham, offering a nurturing environment that encourages outdoor learning and creativity. Find out more about Chestnut Hill School at www.chestnuthillschool.co.uk.
