New Podcast Episode: Understanding Autism in Girls

When it comes to autism, girls are too often left out of the picture.

Autism is still widely misunderstood, and even more so when it comes to how it presents in girls. While many are diagnosed in early childhood, girls are frequently missed – only receiving a diagnosis much later in life, if at all. Why? Because the signs of autism in girls often don’t fit the traditional stereotypes based on how it presents in boys.

In our latest Autism Unpacked episode, “Understanding Autism in Girls,” we’re joined by two leading voices in the field: Professor Francesca Happé and Dr Freya Spicer-White. Together, they unpack why girls are so often overlooked, the challenges of getting a diagnosis, and what parents, educators, and professionals can do to better support autistic girls.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • Why autism can look different in girls than in boys
  • How masking plays a role in late or missed diagnoses
  • The impact of delayed diagnosis on girls’ mental health
  • Ways parents can support their daughters at home, in school, and in social settings
  • Strengths commonly seen in autistic girls and why they matter

This is a must-listen for parents, carers, educators, and anyone looking to better understand the lived experiences of autistic girls.
