Pupil Takes the Next Step Towards a Future in Policing

We’re incredibly proud of GP, a student at Trent Acres School, who is taking a big step towards her dream career by going on to study Public Services at Stafford College.

GP has always had a passion for helping others and loves outdoor activities. She’s a dedicated member of the Explorers, regularly volunteers with local Cub groups, and has proudly achieved her Duke of Edinburgh Award during her time at Trent Acres.

Her ambition to join the police was inspired by a visit to school from a Detective Constable with the Metropolitan Police. After delivering a talk to students, the officer took the time to speak with GP and her parents. He helped address her questions about how her autism diagnosis might affect her journey into policing and shared valuable advice on the different pathways available to her.

Understanding her passion and potential, the officer encouraged GP to apply to the Police Cadets, even writing a personal recommendation to support her application. In his email, he wrote:

“During the talk, I found G to be an incredibly polite, curious and intelligent young woman who I believe would be an asset to the police. G has an Autism diagnosis and as such may not be able to take the traditional route into policing. However, I firmly believe that once she does join, she will not be hindered in any way by her diagnosis. Because of this, I am looking to obtain her any and all experience to best prepare her for her future career.”

Thanks to his support, GP is now a proud member of the Police Cadets, where she’s thriving and developing the skills and confidence needed for a future in law enforcement. The Detective Constable has remained in touch with her family, continuing to offer advice and guidance.

GP is excited to continue her journey in public services and is more determined than ever to make her dream of joining the police a reality.
