Tilewood School: New Specialist School Opening in Buckinghamshire

A new specialist school is planned to open in rural Buckinghamshire in April 2027, subject to registration with the Department for Education.

Tilewood School will provide specialist education for up to 66 children and young people aged 5 to 16 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), with a particular focus on autism and complex additional needs.

A specialist school built around every child

Tilewood will be built around three simple values: Belong. Thrive. Aspire.

The school will provide a safe, nurturing and personalised environment where every pupil is known, understood and supported as an individual. Classes will have no more than six pupils, allowing staff to provide highly personalised support around each child’s needs.

An on-site clinical team, including a psychotherapist, speech and language therapist and occupational therapist, will work alongside teachers and support staff. This integrated approach will help pupils with communication, sensory needs, emotional regulation and learning throughout the school day.

Preparing children for their future

Tilewood will offer an ambitious curriculum benchmarked against the National Curriculum, adapting how pupils access learning to meet their individual needs.

Preparation for adulthood will be embedded throughout school life, helping pupils develop skills such as communication, independence, travel, money management and work-related skills. Pupils will have opportunities to practise these skills through practical learning, community activities and work placements.

A unique setting for specialist education

Tilewood School will be based at Tile House Mansion, a Grade II listed Victorian mansion surrounded by woodland and formal gardens. The site includes playing fields, a sports dome, an all-weather pitch and two lakes, creating extensive opportunities for outdoor learning and practical activities.

The school will serve families across Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes, West Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire.
